Histological Changes Implicated in Metastasis International Journal of Morphology
Díaz-Peña,Roberto; Castro-Santos,Patricia.
The process of malignancy emergence is associated with the acquisition of the capacity to invade other tissues. Several different biological processes have been described as involved in this process. Specifically, epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), a mechanism associated with embryogenesis and wound repair but also with mobility acquisition, is one of the concerned processes. In EMT an epithelial cell loses its epithelial characteristics, its junctions with neighbor cells and with the basal lamina and acquires mobility and mesenchymal characteristics. Also, factors of the tumor microenvironment have been described as involved. Tumor presence triggers a response in the surrounding tissue known as reactive stromal. It shows particular characteristics...

lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 inhibits high glucose-induced EMT and fibrogenesis by regulating the miR-216a-5p/BMP7 axis in diabetic nephropathy BJMBR
Meng,Qingqing; Zhai,Xiaolin; Yuan,Yi; Ji,Qing; Zhang,Pengyuan.
Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the leading causes of mortality in diabetic patients. Long non-coding RNA zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 antisense 1 (ZEB1-AS1) plays a crucial role in the development of various diseases, including DN. However, the molecular mechanism of ZEB1-AS1 in DN pathogenesis remains elusive. An in vitro DN model was established by treating HK-2 cells with high glucose (HG). Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was utilized to detect the expression levels of ZEB1-AS1, microRNA-216a-5p (miR-216a-5p), and bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7). Western blot assay was used to evaluate the protein levels of BMP7, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins, and fibrosis markers. Additionally, the...

Salt-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in Dahl salt-sensitive rats is dependent on elevated blood pressure BJMBR
Wang,Y.; Mu,J.J.; Liu,F.Q.; Ren,K.Y.; Xiao,H.Y.; Yang,Z.; Yuan,Z.Y..
Dietary salt intake has been linked to hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Accumulating evidence has indicated that salt-sensitive individuals on high salt intake are more likely to develop renal fibrosis. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) participates in the development and progression of renal fibrosis in humans and animals. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of a high-salt diet on EMT in Dahl salt-sensitive (SS) rats. Twenty-four male SS and consomic SS-13BN rats were randomized to a normal diet or a high-salt diet. After 4 weeks, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and albuminuria were analyzed, and renal fibrosis was histopathologically evaluated. Tubular EMT was evaluated using immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR...

TRANSICIÓN EPITELIO-MESÉNQUIMA INDUCIDA POR VIRUS Acta biol.Colomb.
